Burnished Brass - Waxed vs Lacquered

Burnished Brass is a metal finish that gives an organic, aged appearance, creating
a classic and timeless look. Popular for its warmth and character, Burnished Brass adds a detail that feels soft and considered.

Within this category, we offer two distinct options in our collections to choose from: Waxed and Lacquered. Each offers a different look, and the choice between the two will not only shape how your home looks today, but also how it will transform in years to come.

We’ve broken down the difference between
Waxed and Lacquered so you can make the right choice for your space.

Waxed Burnished Brass

Waxed Burnished Brass has a ‘living finish’ and will slowly develop a patina as it's exposed to air, moisture, and handling. Over time, this finish naturally takes on character from daily use, darkening with subtle changes in tone and texture.

If you like finishes that tell a story, and one that shifts and softens with time, Waxed is the finish for you.

How to treat Waxed Burnished Brass

Waxed Burnished Brass can be polished to restore brightness, but it doesn’t require maintenance if the living look is what you’re hoping to achieve.

If you prefer your products to patina at a slower pace, we recommend buffing with Carnauba wax every 4-5 weeks to maintain the appearance, or the finish will oxidise and age over time.

Lacquered Burnished Brass

If you want a finish that looks the same, years from now, as it does today, Lacquered Burnished Brass is the choice for you.

This finish is coated with a clear protective layer to lock in the appearance of freshly burnished metal. This means the colour generally stays consistent over time, with more resistance to fingerprints and tarnishes.

This finish does require periodic waxing to maintain its look and protect against further aging.

How to treat Lacquered Burnished Brass

To maintain the lacquered appearance, we recommend cleaning your hardware
with a damp, soft cloth every few weeks, ensuring the products are dried thoroughly.

We recommend you do not use abrasive cloths, cleaning sprays, bleaches, or detergents, as this will cause deterioration of the lacquer and decorative finish and will invalidate the product guarantee.

Waxed vs Lacquered

Both finishes are crafted with the same care and quality. The choice comes down to whether you want your brass to maintain its appearance or evolve with the life around it. There’s no right or wrong answer, it simply comes down to preference.

Please note that not all finishes are available across every collection, so if you have a specific look in mind, we recommend ordering samples to explore the differences in person. And of course, we’re always happy to help you compare finishes or discuss what might work best for your space.
