Embracing Farmhouse Lifestyle.

We were recently invited into Owen's home, a beautiful modern barn conversion nestled in a quaint Yorkshire village.

From the moment we stepped inside, we were struck by how light and airy the space felt. The farmhouse-style kitchen is the focal point of this open-plan home, framed by exposed wooden beams and centred around an island that includes a low-level, integrated breakfast table.

We sat down with Owen to chat about his inspiration for the space, which was built around family life, cooking hearty meals, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Of course, being in Yorkshire, tea, paired perfectly with scones and clotted cream from the local farm shop, was never far from the conversation.

The kitchen balances warmth and practicality. Ample storage includes a larder cupboard for housing tableware, while the traditional butler sink gives that authentic farmhouse feel. A mix of wood tones softens the space, complemented by quartz worktops that add durability.

Creating a Homely Space.

To complete the look, the cabinetry is finished with the Hampton Collection in dull nickel tying the whole space together beautifully.

Tips for Creating a Farmhouse-Style Kitchen:

  1. Choose Natural Materials: Opt for natural materials like wood for beams or cabinetry, and pair them with robust finishes like porcelain or quartz for worktops that can handle the demands of everyday life.
  2. Prioritise Functionality: Incorporate practical elements like a larder cupboard for neatly storing pantry items and tableware. A deep butler sink is incredibly functional for busy kitchens.
  3. Select Timeless Hardware: Your choice of handles can make all the difference in achieving the right look. The Hampton Collection in dull nickel is a perfect example adding understated elegance to Shaker-style cabinetry.
